Growing A Blog Takes Work

Doing certain things the same way everyday will increase your Page Rank in Google, if that's what you're after. Commenting on other relevant blogs is a sure way to build relationships and back links. My goal for '09 is to spend more time commenting, and reading relevant blogs.

When comments are left on your blog, reply as soon as you can. Readers like a responsive blogger, and it lets them know that someone is reading their opinions.

Much of my traffic (86%) was from referral according to my analytics report. That's great! Word of mouth is the best form of advertising one can receive. It's like planting seeds in the spring, if you plant the seeds, tend to them, then they will blossom. That's how relationships grow online, and they take time.

Keeping your focus within your blog posts helps a lot too. When the search spiders crawl through your blog, they are looking for references to the keywords you have chosen as well as references to your description of your blog. Staying on topic makes the reader feel engaged as if you are really addressing their concerns. Remaining topic focused creates credibility in the eyes of the search engines.

Connect with other bloggers - reach out to them and offer to guest post. Guest posting is a great way to cross pollinate each others' traffic.

I discovered that by focusing on one or two social networks will get you traffic, sticky traffic. Concentrate on one or two of the major social networks like Twitter or StumbleUpon and use this traffic as a behavioral traffic magnet. Traffic that is attracted to your blog because the reader has something in common with your information.

I remained true to all of these things from August 26, 2008 until December 31, 2008, I earned a PR2, have 986 inbound backlinks, and an Alexa ranking of 325,000+. My technorati is a 10 and I have been faved in Blog Carnival of Making Money Online several times.

Remaining consistent and determined will get you to the finish line. Now, I'm going to double my efforts using the same strategy. We'll look back at this blog's health in March, the month of my birthday.

The good thing about doing these things, is if you just repeat the process that is already successful, then you can be successful as well. All you have to do is follow instructions and give it time to work.
