Social Media Spread Is Not Unlike A Thanksgiving Spread

Social media is about spreading your content. The spread of your content or sharing of that content means it is good or funny. Good enough for someone to want to share it with their friends, and so on. But, in order to achieve social media spreading, you may want to look at trends on your blog posts. Looking for the things that people like and are truly spreading in the social media world.

Giving content away on the internet is what the internet is about. The internet is the ultimate free trade flea market. And there are various methods in which you can spread your blog content around the internet. Easily the quickest method is by viral marketing. Viral marketing can be viewed as a virus style of marketing; you touch it and someone else touches you, they get it, and on and on. Sometimes viral marketing is intentional, sometimes, like catching a cold, it is not.

Social media spreading is very intentional. It is what Twitter, Facebook and YouTube do so well. If it’s good, then it will be spread without any help from you. The very nature of social media is that it works without help from you. Whatever content you put out there needs to be interesting enough to make others want to check it out and share it as well. Social media spreading can be a marketing adversary given the right combination of variables.

One of my posts on my humor blog, Offbeat Emails is entitled “Gas Prices Around The World” -it is one of my post popular posts. Not because it was well written, and had the ring of a scholarly flow to it. But, because it was timely. Gas prices were beginning to rise significantly and this series of photos expressed how people were feeling around the world. Even though gas prices have dropped since then, it is still a popular post. Social media spreading is responsible for people in forums that I do not belong to or have even heard of, having debates about the photos. The debates have ranged from good or bad, but no matter what is being discussed, the post capitalized on social media spread without much help from me.

In light of what this post is trying to communicate, some readers will wonder how they can orchestrate or manage social media spread. I don’t believe you can really. I believe that if you have content that people find interesting at that moment, then you will have attained some form of social media spread which will translate into lots of traffic. However, social media spread is a difficult thing to predict. You just don’t know what will be popular or what people will like. Human nature as well as human likes and dislikes are similar to predicting when a slot machine will pay off, good luck with that. Social media spread is the same way. You just can’t predict it.
